Meeker Park not accepting hot wood after July 18

Boulder County's site will not accept pine-beetle infested after July 18. The county will have a site open for the public to dispose of hot wood following the end of the beetle flight in mid-September. The Meeker Park site is also closed on July 3 and July 4 for the holiday.

Boulder County's Meeker Park site will NOT be accepting mountain pine-infested (or hot) wood beginning July 18, according to Ryan Ludlow, the county's forestry and outreach coordinator.

“The county urges private landowners not to transport infested wood during the beetle flight time, from mid-July to mid-September, in order to limit the spread of the pine beetle to lower-elevation and urban forests,” Ludlow said. “We will have a site open for private landowners with infested wood following the beetle flight.”
The Meeker Park site will remain open and will accept slash and logs that are clear of pine-beetle infestation, such as those that have been standing dead for a year. Landowners should plan their cutting operations accordingly, because all loads will be inspected on arrival and those containing hot wood will be turned away. The site will accept wood infested by ips beetles.

The Meeker Park site will also be closed for the July 3 and July 4 in celebration of Independence Day.

The Gilpin County and Estes Park sites do accept hot wood during beetle flight, although the latter only accepts wood from the Estes Park Valley. Gilpin County immediately chips all infested wood.
