FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Larimer County, Colorado - Larimer County’s Peak to Peak Wood Sort Yard is scheduled to open on Saturday April 18 for wood as a result of forest thinning and fire mitigation as well as beetle-kill wood.
The Stove Prairie site will be accepting mountain pine beetle infested wood this year. This may be your best opportunity to get rid of large amounts of infested wood. The site, again, will not be accepting slash this year, though this may change at a later date. The sort yard is located on the Colard property .4 miles south of the Stove Prairie School on the Stove Prairie Road (County Road 27) northwest of Fort Collins. The site is open only on Saturdays from 9a.m.-5p.m. The site will close for the season July 18.
Larimer County is partnering with four other Front Range counties, the Town of Estes Park, the Colo. State Parks, Colo. State Forest Service (CSFS), and the United States Forest Service (USFS) to promote forest health through forest thinning and fire mitigation. Peak to Peak Wood is looking to develop a market for the small diameter wood from these thinning operations.
