County residents can use site just north of Allenspark/Meeker Park at no charge through early September

(Boulder County, Colo.) –A new site for wood and slash collection will open this weekend just north of Allenspark to accommodate wood from private lands. The new location is situated near Meeker Park, just over the border from Boulder County in Larimer County. Boulder County will operate the site in partnership with Larimer County, and there will be no charge for Boulder County residents to use the site. 

Opening Day – Sat., July 19

Wood and slash can be dropped off beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, July 19, at the new collection site located at 8170 Hwy 7 in Larimer County. The site is located north of Meeker Park on Highway 7, about one-eighth of a mile past the Larimer County line on the east side of the road.

The hours of operation will be:

• Tuesday-Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Saturday: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• Closed Sunday, Monday

 Due to increased mountain pine beetle activity in the mountains, the new Meeker Park site is accepting any size material with no diameter limit. Trees will be processed based on their condition or value for other applications. During beetle flight (which takes place roughly now through the end of September), beetle-infested wood will be treated and disposed of on-site.  It is anticipated that this is the only year that Boulder County will be accepting wood at this site during beetle flight. Next year, the County will open the site in the spring to give private landowners more opportunity to drop off their wood and slash earlier in the season.

With the opening of the new site, Boulder County will stop accepting wood and slash at the Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Drop-off Center in Allenspark. No wood or slash will be accepted at either location on Friday, July 18, as county staff move operations to the new site. Wood chips from the Allenspark site will continue to be available for use as garden mulch free of charge while supplies last, but all wood and slash drop-offs will now take place at the site in Larimer County.

Note: No other organic materials will be accepted. Do not drop-off any construction materials, root balls, furniture or household trash, and or wood with metal wire on it at any time at any transfer station or drop-off site.
